5 Days | Food, Heritage, Mountains & Human Origins – The Ultimate Green Route Journey

Travel slowly through the agricultural heartland of the Bergrivier Interior, where sustainable farming, living heritage, mountain landscapes and ancient human stories come together in one unforgettable experience. This signature itinerary is designed for travellers seeking meaningful connections with people, culture and place.

Day 1 – Organic Wine & Sustainable Living
Arrive at Org de Rac Organic Wine Estate and discover the principles of organic farming and regenerative agriculture. Enjoy wine tastings, vineyard walks and seasonal farm-to-table dining before settling into the peaceful rhythm of country life.

Day 2 – Market Day on the Mountain
Travel the scenic Versfeld Pass to Piket-Bo-Berg. Visit the monthly farmers market, meet local producers and enjoy a day of slow living surrounded by orchards, protea farms and fynbos-covered mountains.

Day 3 – Mountain to Mission
Hike or cycle from Piket-Bo-Berg to Goedverwacht through spectacular mountain landscapes. Arrive in one of South Africa’s most remarkable heritage villages with a mission station and enjoy a boma (traditional braai) and storytelling experience.

Day 4 – Food, Community & Connection

 Day 5 – Origins & Wetlands
Begin the day with a guided visit to Diepkloof Rock Shelter, one of Southern Africa’s most important and UNESCO archaeological sites. Walk among ancient sandstone formations and discover evidence of some of humanity’s earliest symbolic behaviour. Continue to Verlorenvlei Wetland, a RAMSAR site, for birdwatching, photography and a final immersion in the landscapes that define the Green Route 366.
