Exhibiting Artists
Almarie de Villiers
Based in Porterville, Almarie de Villiers has spent a lifetime sewing and designing garments with care and creativity. From elegant wedding dresses and matric farewell gowns to custom evening wear, her work reflects decades of skill and dedication. In recent years, she launched her children’s clothing brand, Ammi, lovingly inspired by her grandson. Through Ammi, she creates handcrafted children’s clothing that blends comfort, charm, and quality. Each piece is thoughtfully made, celebrating the joy of childhood with the same attention to detail that has defined her work throughout the years.
Maretha Champion
Maretha Burger-Champion is an artist based in Somerset West, working passionately in oils, acrylics and mixed media since 1989. Her work ranges from surrealistic to abstract, shaped by deeply personal narratives and creative exploration. In addition to larger canvases, she creates distinctive small blocks with pewter insertions (15 x 15 cm or 20 x 20 cm), designed to be grouped together on a wall to form one dynamic, evolving artwork. She has completed numerous commissions for offices and private collectors, both locally and abroad. To date, Maretha has taken part in 15 group exhibitions and held 11 solo exhibitions. A career highlight includes exhibiting at the Untitled Art Fair in Chelsea, London, in 2014, and having her work featured on the cover of African Ethics (UKZN Press) in 2009.
Herma van Heerden
Herma van Heerden is a mixed-media artist specializing in ornamental objects and functional art pieces that blur the line between utility and sculpture. Every work is built entirely from scratch—without moulds—guided solely by her hands, vision, and dedication to the creative process. Herma creates one-of-a-kind cake stands, pots, and sculptural pieces that reflect both her joy in making and her love for expressive, handcrafted forms. Her practice is rooted in papier-måChé, which she shapes and sculpts by hand, then refines with air-dry clay to add detail and durability. This layered technique results in lightweight, textured structures that celebrate intentional imperfection and the beauty ofthe handmade. A signature element of her work is the colour white—her personal favourite—often used to evoke simplicity, clarity, and a quiet sense of elegance.
