Rainfall and Its Impact on the Flower Season

The Bergrivier region has received good rainfall this year, which signals a promising and vibrant flower season. The timing and abundance of blooms are closely linked to favourable weather conditions.

Blooming Period and Common Wildflowers

Annual wildflowers typically begin blooming in the last week of July. Some of the most common and eye-catching wildflowers in the region include:

White, yellow and orange daisies (Gousblomme)
Wild Chamomile
Yellow Sorrel
Skilpadbessie and Duinebessie (Tortoise and Dune berries)
Coastal Sage (Strandsalie)
Viooltjies (wild violets)
Hanekam – Found in the coastal sands between Velddrif and Dwarskersbos
Kandelaar (Candelabra lilies)

These are just a few examples—many more flower species can be spotted throughout the region.

Top Flower Viewing Spots

Some of the best areas to enjoy flower displays in the Bergrivier region include:

Open plots and road verges
The golf course in Velddrif
The stretch between Velddrif and Dwarskersbos
The Hopefield road between Velddrif and Hopefield
Kruispad Farm on the way to Piketberg

Flowers bloom along many main routes, but for your safety, please avoid stopping on roads without designated pull-off areas.
